PNP boosts school security after Cavite stabbing incidents

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has ordered heightened security measures in and around schools in Cavite, as the PNP expresses concern over two separate stabbing incidents involving students in the province this month.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the incidents on June 16 and 19 are being treated as isolated cases pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
Nartatez directed all police units to intensify police visibility and conduct sustained preventive patrols in school zones, particularly during opening, recess and dismissal hours.
He instructed the Calabarzon regional police and Cavite provincial police to strictly implement security measures in their respective areas.
Both police offices were ordered to conduct a thorough investigation and coordinate closely with school authorities and local governments in carrying out security assessments, perimeter checks and stronger access control inside school premises.
“The PNP reiterates that violence in educational institutions is unacceptable. We remain committed to working with all concerned sectors to ensure safe, secure and conducive learning environments for all students,” Nartatez said in a statement.
On June 16, a 14-year-old Grade 8 student wounded seven Grade 5 students in a knife attack inside a private school in Gen. Trias City.
Three days later, an 18-year-old Grade 11 student was wounded in a knife attack inside the Cavite National High School in Cavite City.
