NBA champion Clarkson gets congratulatory call from Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines — From one Filipino champion to another.
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao sent congratulations to newly crowned NBA champion Jordan Clarkson, who won the Larry O’Brien trophy with the New York Knicks.
Clarkson was a veteran piece off the bench for the Knicks, who won the NBA title in five games against the San Antonio Spurs.
Pacquiao sent his congratulations via video call.
“Happy for you, bro,” Pacquiao said in the video posted by Steve Jumalon, Pacquiao’s brother-in-law.
Clarkson, in the video, said that he was just celebrating the win.
The veteran guard became the first NBA player with Filipino descent to win the title.
He previously represented Gilas Pilipinas in international basketball tournaments.
Clarkson also carried the Philippine flag during the Knicks’ championship parade, draping it on his body and waving it as he celebrated.
In another video, he also chanted “Knicks in Five!” to the crowd.
This is Clarkson’s first season with New York. He played 18 games in the postseason, and averaged 4.9 points and 1.7 rebounds in 10.8 minutes a contest.
