Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The construction of the new “Merkado sa Danao” has reached 80 percent accomplishment under Phase 2 and about 85 percent structural completion, marking another milestone in the Danao City government’s efforts to develop a modern and sustainable public market.

Danao City Mayor Nito Durano, in a Facebook post, said that the project represents more than just a new trading center. He described it as a symbol of the city’s resilience and commitment to rebuilding better while creating more opportunities for residents.

Durano said construction activities continue to be closely monitored to ensure that the facility will be modern, functional, safe, and built to last.

The project is also intended to reflect the Durano administration’s commitment to providing quality public infrastructure that will benefit both present and future generations.

The mayor said that while the remaining 15 percent of structural work is being completed, the city government has already begun preparations for the market’s future operations.

He added that learning visits to local government units known for their smart market innovations and effective public market management have been scheduled to help Danao adopt best practices in technology, cleanliness, efficiency, and sustainability.

Durano said that these initiatives are aimed at ensuring that the new public market will operate with modern and people-centered systems from the outset.

Guided by the Connectivity Agenda of the mayor and supported by the legislative initiatives of Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, the new marketplace is expected to create more opportunities for vendors, provide convenience to consumers, and become a source of pride for Danawanons. — /MRM (FREEMAN)
