CEBU, Philippines — Expectations are high as the Queen City of the South turns into a global basketball hub with its hosting of the highly anticipated Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase 2026-Visayas Cup on July 1-5.

SLA Chairman Rocky Chan said international delegates look forward to the historic event with strong excitement for both the competition and their stay in the city.

Chan also confirmed that despite the crisis in the Middle East, no foreign participants have withdrawn from the tournament and all teams will continue with their respective campaigns in the five-day tilt that brings together some of the most promising young cagers from different countries.

“The teams, especially our international delegates, have high expectations for the Cebu leg of our tournaments. Despite the war crisis, nothing has changed or not a single team from our international group has pulled out. They are also excited to have a glimpse of Cebu with their families during their stay,” Chan said.

It is for this reason that the organizers are leaving no stones unturned in preparing for what is expected to be the biggest and grandest hoop extravaganza to hit Cebu, with multiple venues across the city ready to stage non-stop action:Cebu Coliseum, Magnum Sports Complex, University of San Carlos (USC)-Downtown Campus, and Cebu City Sports Institute.

For the Cebuanos, a high-octane spectacle is in store as rising stars from the Philippines and abroad collide in a hardcourt showdown built to showcase top-tier grassroots talents from the 13 Under, 15 Under, 17 Under, 19 Under, and 23 Under age groups.

Each division represents not just Cebu, but teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as teams from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and United Arab Emirates.

Chan said the fans can expect a full week of intense battle across all venues, with free admission allowing the public to witness world-class youth basketball action up close.

“Expect an exciting week of grassroots basketball and a high level of competition by all the teams. All the venues are free for the public to come and watch the world play in all our game venues,” Chan assured.
