BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A motorist who ignored a pedestrian lane in this city has been tracked down with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), according to the local government.

The incident involved a gray Toyota Innova caught on a closed-circuit television camera violating a road ordinance on Yandoc street.

Although the vehicle’s plate was obscured by a glare, authorities used an AI-assisted video analysis to trace its route through multiple camera feeds.

Probers found the vehicle entered the city through Irisan at 11:22 a.m. and exited through the same route at 3:40 p.m.

The system managed to identify the vehicle owner who was traced in Bauang, La Union.

Police contacted the driver who admitted the violation.

A traffic citation ticket was issued and the case was endorsed to the Land Transportation Office for appropriate action.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the incident showed how the city’s AI-powered command center is helping authorities hold traffic violators accountable.

Magalong reminded motorists to respect pedestrian crossings, warning that violators can now be identified and tracked down even after leaving the city.
