MANILA, Philippines —  President Marcos wants an assessment of the performance of the country’s power grid to ensure that it can accomplish its tasks as the government continues to address power outages in some parts of Luzon and the Visayas.

Efforts to stabilize the country’s power supply were discussed during Marcos’ meeting with energy officials on Wednesday at Malacañang.

“He said the ERC should conduct a performance review of the NGCP and ensure that it completes all its deliverables,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said yesterday, referring to the Energy Regulatory Commission and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

The country experienced power disruptions and supply shortage last month due to the impact of the Middle East crisis.

The Luzon and Visayas grids were placed under red and yellow alerts last month due to insufficient power supply.

“The directive is to fix or normalize the situation the soonest possible time,” Castro said.

Citing a report by the energy department, Castro said the country has about 46 days worth of fuel reserves as of May 29.
