MANILA, Philippines — After 60 years, Quezon City has been declared as host of next year’s Palarong Pambansa.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has accepted the hosting responsibilities from Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. during closing ceremonies of the Palarong Pambansa 2026 over the weekend.

“The 2027 Palarong Pambansa is a full-circle moment for our city. The last time that QC hosted the Palarong Pambansa was 1966 or 60 years ago, coinciding with the inauguration of our Amoranto Stadium,” Belmonte said.

“Since then, Quezon City has been home to some of the most defining moments in Philippine sports history,” Belmonte added.

To mark the turnover, the pylon at the Quezon Memorial Circle was illuminated in red on Saturday night. The city’s executive building was lit up with the words “Palarong Pambansa 2027.”

Belmonte said the city aims to provide 2027 Palaro athletes with “a champion’s experience worthy of the country’s premier national sporting event.”

“Quezon City knows what it means to host greatness. And this is the experience that we want every Palaro athlete to carry with them in 2027. A champion’s experience, the same feeling countless world-class athletes have known on our grounds,” she said.

In recent years, the city government has invested in renovation and improvement of various facilities, including the Amoranto Sports Complex.

“We thrive in the fact that all roads lead to, and through, us. We are proud to be connected to every corner of this great archipelago. We carry this affinity with us as we open our home for next year’s Palarong Pambansa,” Belmonte said.
