2 cops tagged in death of Sultan Kudarat civilian

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two policemen, who figured in a gunfight with robbers in Tacurong City on Thursday, were placed under restrictive custody after they were accused of causing the death of a passerby, the Soccsksargen police said.

The Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office confirmed yesterday that SS/Sgts. Michael Daing and Albert dela Cruz were disarmed and restrained at the Tacurong City Police Station.

Daing and Dela Cruz were chasing and trading shots with robbers in Barangay San Pablo in Tacurong City on Thursday when they allegedly hit Shayeed Mangelen Lim, who was driving his car along the road where the shootout took place.

Lim died at the hospital where emergency responders brought him for treatment of several gunshot wounds.

According to relatives, Lim belongs to the Mangelen clan of Maguindanao del Sur and had no known enemies.
