Malixi in Last 8 of US Women’s Amateur

MANILA, Philippines — Filipina Rianne Malixi hurdled two tough assignments in a long day in Oklahoma to reach the quarterfinals of the US Women’s Amateur Championship.

Malixi took care of business in the morning sessions against Canadian Anna Huang, 2 and 1, then disposed of American Scarlett Schremmer in the afternoon, 3 and 2, to keep her bid for a second USGA crown rolling.

The 17-year-old, fresh from her triumph at the US Girls’ Junior tilt last month, seeks to continue her drive against American Catherine Rao in the Last-8.

The 51st-ranked Rao nosed out No. 62 compatriot Bailey Shoemaker, 3 and 2, to earn a crack at a semis berth against the No. 6 from the Philippines.
