MANILA, Philippines — Muling sasanayin ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ang mga pampublikong guro na magsisilbing Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) sa manual voting, siyam na araw bago ang magkasabay na Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) sa Mayo 14. 

Sinabi ni DILG Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya, kinakailangang ma-orient muli ang mga guro sa panuntunan sa pagpapahalaga at pagbibilang ng balota lalo na’t ang botohan at bilangan para sa May 14 elections ay manual, kaiba sa automated elections noong 2016. 

“It is always a huge challenge for teachers serving as BEIs especially with all the pressure from poll watchers, supporters of the barangay and SK candidates, and even from voters. They should therefore know their duties like the back of their hands to ensure that there will be no glitches come election day,” sabi ni Malaya. 

Ayon kay Malaya, magiging mahalaga ang pagsasanay para sa mga gurong nagsilbi bilang BEIs noong nakaraang halalan maging sa mga unang beses palang magsisilbi.

Aniya, nakausap niya ang ilang guro mula sa Pangasinan na humihiling ng special training sa appreciation of ballots bago ang Barangay elections. 

Ang huling manual election sa bansa ay ginanap noong November 2013 barangay election habang ang automated elections ay isinagawa noong May 2013 midterm at May 2016 presidential elections.

Nabatid na nasa 77 milyong balota ang ilalabas para sa darating na eleksiyong pambarangay at SK.
