Cayetano kay NHCP chair Diokno sa Torre de Manila case: Resign!

MANILA, Philippines – Pinagbibitiw ni Sen. Pia Cayetano ngayong Lunes si National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chair Maria Serena Diokno kung hindi niya maipaglalaban ang Rizal Monument sa kaso ng Torre de Manila.

“Chair Diokno, resign if you cannot defend the Rizal Monument!” pahayag ni Cayetano na siya ring Senate committee chair on education, arts and culture.

Aniya hindi kayang gampanan ni Diokno ang kaniyang trabaho na maipagtanggol ang mga national historic sites ng Pilipinas.

Ipinagtataka rin ng senadora kung bakit hindi maipaglaban ni Diokno ang Rizal Monument gayong maraming Pilipino ang tumutuligsa sa pagtatayo ng condominium building sa likod ng tanawin ng rebulto ng pambansang bayani.

“I find it extremely strange that we now have the National Historical Commission of the Philippines insisting that it cannot defend the Rizal Monument when there are many of us, including the Solicitor General, the defender of the Constitution, who believe that we must and we can protect the Rizal Monument under the Constitution and existing laws,” wika ni Cayetano.

Hindi rin niya ikinatuwa ang pagkuha pa ni Diokno ng tao upang ipaglaban ang Rizal Monument.

“If the chair of NHCP cannot get on board with this, as she has blatantly displayed, then she must resign instead of hiring private counsel to defend her inability to perform her job.”
