AFP chief, 2 pang general pinagbibitiw

MANILA, Philippines - Hinamon ng isang retiradong heneral sina AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., at dalawa pang opisyal ng militar na magbitiw sa puwesto dahil sa kabiguan umanong magresponde ng mabilis para saklolohan ang Special Action Force (SAF) commandos na naiipit sa bakbakan sa Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) sa Mamasapano, Maguindanao noong Ene­ro 25.

Nanawagan si ret. Brig. Gen. Rodrigo Gutang, secretary ng Cavalier Association of Veterans, na magbitiw na sa puwesto sina Catapang, AFP Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero at Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID) Chief Major Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan.

Ginawa ni Gutang ang pahayag matapos malantad na kahapon ang nilalaman ng PNP-Board of Inquiry (BOI) report na naging mabagal ang pagresponde ng militar na nagresulta sa pagkasawi ng 44 SAF.

 “I am asking them to retire early for abandoning a very beleaguered unit during the reinforcement to protect the state and to protect the people,” sabi ni Gutang sa ginanap na open forum sa pagpupulong ng Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO) sa Camp Aguinaldo.

Kinuwestiyon ni Gutang ang kabiguan ng militar na magpadala kaagad ng reinforcement upang saklolohan ang SAF commandos partikular na ang 84th at 55thSAF companies na napintakasi ng MILF at BIFF sa Brgys. Pidsandawan at Tukanalipao sa Mamasapano.

Masyado umanong matagal ang 10 oras para sa reinforcement kung saan hindi sana ganito kalaki ang bilang ng mga casualties sa hanay ng SAF commandos.

 “How in the world that your brigade had not arrived in the area that is only 11 kilometers away. Is it inexcusable that the whole division cannot reinforce the SAF within the distance of 11 kilometers.

Binatikos din nito si PNoy dahil umano sa paghuhugas kamay o palusot sa pagkasawi ng 44 SAF na kaniyang ipinagkatiwala sa suspendidong si Director General Alan Purisima at nasibak na si SAF Commander Getulio Napeñas.
