MANILA, Philippines - Iginiit kahapon ni Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group head Sec. Antonio Villar Jr. na itinayo lamang ang PASG upang buwagin ang smuggling activities sa bansa at kapag kaya na itong linisin ng Bureau of Customs (BoC) mula sa mga smugglers ay hindi na kailangan pa ang PASG.
“Since our creation, I have repeatedly expressed PASG is not needed if rampant smuggling is totally ended by the government, particularly by the Bureau of Customs,” wika ni Sec. Villar.
Ito ang naging tugon ni Villar mula sa panawagan ni Customs Commissioner Joselito Alvarez na buwagin na ang PASG.
Sabi ni Villar, isinumite ni PASG director Jeffrey Patawaran kay Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. ang mga dokumento ng mga kasong isinampa ng PASG kabilang ang P250 milyong smuggled diamond at jewelry, multi-bilyong oil smuggling sa Subic at ang P500 milyong frozen meat at farm products sa BoC sa anti-smuggling operations nito
“We are ready to vacate our post if we receive the directive of a formal turn over,” sabi naman ni PASG director Patawaran kaugnay sa panawagan ni Comm. Alvarez na buwagin ang PASG.
Idinagdag pa ni Patawaran, gumanda ang koleksyon ng BOC dahil sa mahigpit ding pagbabantay ng PASG kaya hindi nakakalusot ang mga kontrabando mula sa Customs.
