MANILA, Philippines - Hinamon ni Presidential Anti Smuggling Group (PASG) chief Undersec­retary Antonio “Bebot” Villar Jr. ang suspendidong Customs broker na si Agapito Mendez Jr. na ipa­liwanag ang pagkakaiba sa binayaran niyang duties at taxes para sa kanyang 5,414 import transactions.

Sinabi ni Villar na ang importations ay ipinasok sa warehousing entry scheme kung saan si Mendez, pangulo ng Professional Customs Brokers Association of the Philippines Inc., ay nagbayad lang ng P300,000 duties at taxes.

Kung ang importasyon ay pinasok sa consumption entry scheme, dapat ay nagbayad si Mendez ng P1,435,980,000 duties at iba pang buwis, ayon kay Villar.

Ang mga inangkat na produkto ay binubuo ng 707 container vans ng textiles, 477 fabric materials, 147 packaging materials, 72 washing chemicals, 11 textile products at 4,060 container vans ng plastic resins.

Nagsampa na ang Bureau of Customs ng kaso laban kay Mendez dahil sa paglilihis nito ng isang shipment ng 573 rolls ng tela na ipinasok sa ilalim ng warehousing entry scheme.

Kinasuhan si Mendez ng paglabag sa Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines dahil sa paglilihis ng shipment na naka-consign sa New River Apparel Inc.

Dapat ay maihatid sa warehouse sa New River sa Taytay, Rizal ang na­sabing kargamento pero dinala ito sa Best Print Textile Finishing warehouse sa Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Dahil dito, sinuspinde ni Customs Accreditation Secretariat Executive Director Atty. Zsae Carrie de Guzman si Mendez. (Butch Quejada/Rudy Andal)
