Cebu Amateur Boxing buhion og balik

CEBU, Philippines - Nagkahiusa ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) ug ALA Boxing Gym nga buhion og balik ang himalatyon nga kahimtang sa amateur boxing dinhi sa Sugbo.

Si ABAP Central Visayas Board of Trustee Lorenzo ‘Chao’ Sy nagkanayon nga iyang namatikdan nga nagkahupas na ang popularidad ug wala na kaayo mahatagan og igong pagtagad ang amateur boxing ning dapita sa nasud.

Timaan niini, ang mga Sugbuanong boksidor nga kanhi dominante kulatahonon na lamang karon sa ilang mga kontra sa laing probinsiya bisan na lang gani sa rehiyonal nga kompetisyon.

Mao kini ang nagtukmod ni Chao Sy paghimo sa maong lakang.

“I’ve noticed that Cebu amateur boxing is in alarming decline that is why I am taking this initiative. I want to make it alive and kicking again,” matud pa ni Chao Sy atol sa pormal nga paglusad sa Cebu Amateur Boxing Revival kagahapon diha sa Cebu City Sports Center.

Gilantaw ni Chao Sy sa unahan ang maong hagit nga napuno sa kahinam ug kadasig gumikan sa hugtanong suporta sa PSC pinaagi ni Ramon Fernandez ug Hall of Fame sportsman Antonio ‘Bidoy’ L. Aldeguer, ang giyukboan nga amahan sa Cebu boxing.

“I assure the boxing community that the PSC will always be there for you. Boxing richly deserves support because it is one of the sports where we can win gold in the Olympics,”  matud pa ni PSC-7 director Boobi Kintanar.

Mismo si Aldeguer ang  nakadayeg  sa gibuhat   ni  Chao   Sy  kay alang kaniya dako kini  og matampo   aron   pagbarog og balik sa nahagba nga estado sa Cebu boxing.

“I was just prompted to give a helping hand to my friend Chao (Sy) after I read in the news a few months back how Cebu amateur boxers were trampled by other provinces/cities during a regional eliminator held in Cebu,” sumala pa ni Aldeguer, nga maoy nagtukod sa ALA Gym ug ALA Promotions. “It really pains me how the Cebu amateur boxers dismally performed in a sport we used to dominate nationally a few decades ago.”

"I just want to bring back the old glory of Cebu amateur boxing. That is the only reason why I volunteered to assist Cebu amateur boxing,” dugang pa niya.

Isip buena mano nilang proyekto, si Chao Sy nagkanayon nga mopahigayon sila og torneyo kaduha sulod sa usa ka bulan nga mosikad karong Sabado diha sa Plaza Sugbo duol sa Cebu City Hall.

Ang kompetisyon naglangkob og novice/kids, school boys/developmental ug juniors/experienced division.

Si tournament director Peter Cuizon mibutyag nga ang mga partisipante nagagikan sa walo ka boxing clubs. Kini mao ang Labogon ug Phil-Aust BC sa dakbayan sa Mandaue, 10,000 BC ug Big Yellow BC sa dakbayan sa Talisay, Tuburan BC, Wakee BC, The ‘A’ gym ug Cebu City Sports Center.

“I am hoping that out of this program we will be able to find talents and develop them to become members of the national team,” matud pa ni Chao Sy. “Our ultimate goal really is to help the country win that elusive Olympic gold.” (BANAT NEWS)
