Banat Opinyon

SENIOR CITIZEN - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Under the present administration, senior citizens have seen initiatives like the doubling of the social pension for indigent seniors, the signing of the Expanded Centenarians Act granting cash gifts to those aged 80 and above, and the transfer of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to improve service delivery.”

Unya, ang Expanded Centenarians Act nga gipirmahan sa niaging tuig, provides P10,000 cash gift to seniors on their 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays, in addition to the P100,000 gift for centenarians.

In my case, nakalimot ko niini nga provision, hinungdan nga wala ako makadawat sa maong mga kantidad pag-edad nakog 80 ug 85 (I’m this old already).

Mipadayon ang Google: “The administration acknowledges the significant challenges faced by seniors, including financial dependence on family, high healthcare costs, and inadequate long-term care.  The government emphasizes its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the elderly and ensuring they receive the respect they deserve.”

Mao kini ang mga challenges nga atong giatubang nga gi-acknowledged sa atong gobyerno nga wala magpabaya paghatag og quality of life sa mga seniors. Dugang mga programs, initiated alang sa nagkalainaing sectors, sama sa mga veterano, mga seniors nga mag-uuma, marginalized individuals, agri-livelihood training programs, special discounts for seniors on food products and farm inputs like fertilizers and feeds, ubp.

Ug karon, adto kita sa America. Apan, una sa tanan, kon maghisgot kita og senior citizens, ang masulod sa atong hunahuna mao ang AARP, kon American Association of Retired Persons, which was founded in 1958 by Ethel Percy Andrus, usa ka retired school principal.

Karon, matud pa, ang “AARP is a powerful lobbying group that advocates for the rights and needs of older adults, and offers a wide array of benefits designed to enhance the quality of life for people aged 50 and over.”

Originally, gitukod ni Andrus ang National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) in 1947 to secure health insurance and pension benefits for retired educators.

Angay usab masayran nga ang AARP ug ang senior citizen population sa America, sama dinhi sa ato, ‘do not align with any single political party. It is a non-partisan organization.

Kini tungod kay maoy atong gusto nga mag-iyahay kita, as a separate, independent, and autonomous senior citizens associations.

Tinuod ba ang giingon nga it is impossible to unite the Filipinos?
