Still alive

Alas onse sa buntag. Nahuman na og bista ang siyam ka kaso sa kalendaryo sa husgado. Ang ika-napulo, ang kaso nga gi-atbangan nila ni Atty. Jade Sakihod, 58 anyos ug Atty. Ted Ratolir, 43 anyos. Alas 8:30 sa buntag ang schedule sa kaso. Kaduha na natawag.

Apan wa gihapon niabot si Atty. Ratolir. Dihang namingaw na ang husgado ug ang kaso tali nilang duha ka abogado, mao na lang ang bistahon, gitawag ang kaso sa huwes sa ikatulong higayon.

“Respectfully appearing for the defendants, Your Honor. We are ready” ni Jade. Nibarog. Sa kaso nga declaration of nullity of sale, si Ted nga abogado sa kihante, mopresentar pa og ikatulong testigo. Apan wa katunga rong buntaga. Nagpanan-aw ang huwes sa pultahan sa husgado. Unya nitan-aw ang huwes ni Jade. “Atty. Sakihod, is Atty. Ratolir still alive?!” sukot ni Judge Gina Tamikaw. Seryoso ang hitsura. Nakalitan si Jade sa pangutana sa huwes.  Gikulbaan.

Niabot sa iyang hunahuna nga nadisgrasya o nasakit ba kaha si Ted. Unya naospital. Kay sayonan kag pangutan-on kun buhi pa ba ang maong abogado. Pero naabot sa hunahuna ni Jade nga naglagot lang diay ang huwes ni Ted. Maong nakapangutana og ingon ana. “Ah, Your Honor, I belive Atty. Ratolir is still alive and kicking. He is very much younger and healthier than me. He just took the Court for granted. Because he did not give any notice verbal or written as to what happened to him why he could not show up for the hearing this morning. this schedule was mutually agreed in open court” ni Jade. “What is your pleasure?” sa huwes.

“I move that the right to present further plantfiff’s evidence be deemed waived, and Atty. Ratolir be directed to offer his evidence. We will be given time to comment on the evidence and then the Court would rule as to their admissibility. After which, the case be set for hearing for the presentation of our evidence” ni Jade. “Alright Order” sa huwes. Nidiktar ang huwes sa stenographer pag-aproba sa motion ni Jade ug nidugang pa gyud ang huwes pag-ingon nga “Atty. Ratolir is further directed to explain in writing within 72 hours from receipt of this order, why he should not be held in indirect contempt of Court for failure to appear in today’s hearing”.

Nakatuaw sa hilom si Jade nga wa na siya’y labot anang contempt. Apan dili niya masupak ang huwes. (Kataposan)
