CEBU, Philippines — Two men were killed in separate attacks in Cebu. One was a 73-year-old farmer who was killed after a drinking session in Boljoon town and the other a 44-year-old construction worker who was attacked while heading home in San Fernando town.

In Boljoon, the farmer was killed while a 37-year-old construction worker was injured following a machete attack in Barangay El Pardo past 11 P.M. last Friday, August 28.

Police said the two men, both residents of Boljoon, were drinking together when they got into an argument.

The farmer later returned armed with a machete and attacked the construction worker, hitting him in the left arm.

The construction worker managed to take the weapon from the farmer during a struggle and used it to attack him.

The farmer suffered wounds to his head and abdomen. He was brought to the Oslob District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Responding police officers arrested the construction worker and recovered the machete believed to have been used in the incident.

The suspect was treated for his injury and is being held at the Boljoon Municipal Police Station pending the filing of a homicide case.

In San Fernando, a construction worker was killed after he was attacked by an unidentified assailant while heading home from a disco in Barangay Magsico past 1 A.M. last Saturday, August 29.

Police identified the victim as Juan Baritos Sebial, 44, a resident of Barangay Balungag, San Fernando.

Initial investigation showed that Sebial had attended a disco held as part of the annual fiesta celebration in their barangay before heading home.

He was reportedly attacked while walking along a road in Barangay Magsico.

Sebial suffered a serious wound to his neck. Police said he managed to run several meters after the attack before collapsing and dying.

Police later found the victim along the road and began investigating the incident.

Authorities have identified a person of interest who may have been involved in the killing.

The San Fernando police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether Sebial had a previous conflict with anyone or was specifically targeted. — (FREEMAN)
