?36M in drugs seized in a week

CEBU, Philippines — A total of ?36.3 million worth of illegal drugs was seized while 385 individuals were arrested for various offenses by policemen throughout the region from December 22 to 28, 2024, according to the Police Regional Office-7.

The drug operations also resulted to the arrest of 140 drug offenders.

During the same period, enhanced measures against illegal gambling resulted in the confiscation of ?11,849 in bet money and the apprehension of 156 individuals.

Eleven of the most wanted suspects and 61 other wanted individuals were arrested through the implementation of court-issued warrants. The operations also led to the seizure of 60 unregistered firearms, three explosives, and various types of ammunition.

“We have been extensively preparing and have adjusted our security strategies in anticipation of the New Year celebrations and the upcoming Sinulog festivities. PRO-7 is committed to maintaining the highest standards of service and professionalism in our mission to protect the people of Central Visayas," said PRO-7 officer-in-command Police Brigadier General Roy Parena.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Intelligence Unit and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Cebu Police Provincial Office apprehended a  catering service waiter in possession of 150 grams of suspected shabu valued at ?1 million last Sunday in Purok Lambay, Barangay San Roque, Talisay City.

CPPO officer-in-charge, Police Colonel Jovito Atanacio commended the operatives for the operation.

“This successful operation reflects our steadfast commitment to eradicating illegal drugs in Cebu Province. We urge the public to remain vigilant and to continue supporting our efforts to create a safer and drug-free community,” he said in a statement posted in their Facebook page. — (FREEMAN)
