Philippines partners with Japanese giants for sustainable growth
CEBU, Philippines — The Philippines is committed to building a future powered by renewable energy and sustainable innovation, said Cristina A. Roque, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), during high-level talks with major companies Sumitomo Corporation, Fujifilm Holdings Corporation, and Chodai Co., Ltd. on March 3. These meetings were aimed at strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global move towards clean and sustainable industries.
Secretary Roque highlighted the importance of these partnerships in securing foreign investments, enhancing supply chain integration, and creating a business-friendly environment to promote steady economic development.
Sumitomo Corporation: Boosting Infrastructure and Renewable Energy
One of the key meetings was with Sumitomo Corporation, where Secretary Roque and executives discussed the company’s growing role in supporting the Philippines’ infrastructure and renewable energy projects. Sumitomo has been involved in major transportation projects in the country, such as the Metro Manila Subway and the MRT Line 3 Maintenance. These projects are important for improving the country’s transportation system and urban development.
Looking ahead, Sumitomo plans to expand its renewable energy efforts in the Philippines starting in 2025. This initiative aligns with the country's push for sustainable development and energy security. The company also plays an important role in attracting foreign investment and managing industrial parks in the Philippines.
