Pressure on for CCSC contractor to finish oval
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is now giving the SBD Builders an ultimatum to finish the track oval in Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) by the end of the month.
Mayor Raymond Garcia said its other awarded project, a bridge rehabilitation, looms termination due to delays of its completion also.
Garcia earlier ordered rehabilitation anew of the track oval following the damages that were seen on its surface just months before it reopened for the public’s use.
As to the bridge project, Garcia said they recently inspected it at the Barangay Pulangbato where it was seen that it hasn’t been finished yet.
The construction cost is at P24 million which started last September 15, 2023 and is supposed to run up to 240 calendar days.
“When I was there, I did not find any workers no,” said Garcia recalling his recent inspection of the area.
Garcia wants to meet with the head and staff of the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to ask them on the status of the said projects.
“And we are looking into terminating the contract for the oval as well as the bridge,” said Garcia.
He however said that they are still giving an ultimatum on the track oval since the contractor has promised to begin the rehabilitation within the month.
Previously, Shaun Doherty, owner of SBD Builders said that the track oval is not substandard and damages were due to the transportation of the materials to build a make-shift stage during the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa and other cultural events. —/DGI (FREEMAN)
