“If his signature brand of service was to keep the hopes, progress, dreams of Cebu City buoyant, that resilience probably stemmed from his experience as a sinking ship survivor when he clung for dear life for 36 hour,” tipik sa pamahayag ni Villanueva.
“His death is truly a loss to the Cebuanos and all the people who have had the privilege of knowing him. He has touched the lives of many, served his constituents, and uplifted them from poverty, alongside President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” ni Andanar pa.
“It is with deep sorrow that I say goodbye to a man of principle who was not only a good friend to me but a partner in governance. He spoke with wisdom and acted with passion. We shared the same vision for Cebu City and that made us even closer,” matud sab ni OPAV Secretary Michael Dino.
“Having served as Councilor, Vice-Mayor, and Mayor of Cebu City, from 1998 until his passing, he knew every nook and cranny of the City, and more importantly, he knew its people. As a leader, he was both firm and compassionate, serving only for the best interest of his people,” dugang pa niya.
“I first knew of Mayor Labella after he graduated at our family’s school, the University of the Visayas. He graduated there as a Political Science student. I consider Mayor Labella as a “true legend” in Cebu’s political circles because of the amazing story of how he became one of the survivors of the ill-fated MV Princess of the Orient in 1998. But most of all, I also consider him as a true political success story, rising as a then neophyte councilor in 1998 until he became mayor in 2019…. It is sad to know that Mayor Labella was not able to finish what he had set to do when he became mayor. But as I read the numerous messages of condolences online, I realized that Mayor Labella’s legacy will continue on in the hearts of the Cebuanos,” matud pang Gullas sa post niini sa iyang Facebook page.
