CEBU, Philippines - Buot ipadayon ni senator-elect Cynthia Villar ang paghulma sa Department of Overseas Filipino Workers aron masiguro nga ang katungod ug kaayohan sa mga Filipino migrant workers maatiman ug maprotektaran. Matud pa ni Villar nga iyaha kining i-refile nga bill, karong umaabot nga 16th Congress sunod buwan.

Ang maong bill giduso sa iyang bana nga si Senador Manuel Villar sa 15th Congress apan wala pa kini mapasar.

“This will be one way of recognizing the importance of our OFWs,” matud pa ni  Villar, kinsa siya usab ang managing director sa  Villar Foundation nga libo-an na ka mga  distressed OFWs ang ilang natabangan sulod sa duha na ka dekada. Nagtoo si Villar nga gikinahanglan gyud mga ma-  centralize ang tanang serbisyo ug functions sa mga ahensiya sa gobiyerno o  bureaus alang sa mga OFWs, aron mas epektibo ang pagtubag sa mga problema nila.

“The creation of a department dedicated solely to OFWs would simplify and harmonize efforts to look after them when there is a crisis and secure their welfare and rights during normal times,” dungag pa ni Villar.

Nagkanayon si Villar nga ang mga OFWs angayan lang nga tawgon og "modern day heroes" tungod sa ilang dakung tabang sa atong ekonomiya pina-agi sa ilang mga remittances. “We draw a lifeline from their remittances being sent to the country. The dollar remittances provide a big boost to our economy. We should address all the concerns of our OFWs, starting from their recruitment until the time they are already working in a foreign country,” dungag pa ni Villar.  (BANAT NEWS)
