“Not guilty, your honor,”—Garcia

CEBU, Philippines - Mi-plead not guilty si suspended Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia  sa kasong graft ug malversation of public funds atubangan sa Sandiganbayan kagahapon.

Si Garcia gikuyogan sa  iyang abogadong si Tranquil Salvador sa pagtambong sa anti-graft court Second Division usa ka adlaw human wala niya tambongi ang arraignment maong gimando ang pagpa-aresto kaniya.

“Not guilty, your honor,” maoy tubag ni Garcia nila ni Associate Justices Teresita Diaz-Baldos, Napoleon Intorun, ug Oscar Herrera Jr. human basaha ang iyang kaso sa open court.

Ang kaso ni Garcia may kalambigitan sa pagkapalit sa P99.6-million Balili property niadtong 2008.

Ang Office of the Ombudsman, maoy misang-at sa kaso ngadto sa Sandiganbayan human sa makuting imbestigasyon ug nasuta nga lapad nga bahin sa maong luna naglubog sa tubig sa dagat.

Gilibkas usab sa korte ang arrest order  tungod sa pagtambong na ni Garcia kagahapon.

Gihatagan ni Baldos ang og 30 ka adlaw ang prosekusyon ug depensa pagsumiti og pre-trial briefs uban sa listahan sa ilang mga witnesses ug ebidensya nga ipresentar sa husay. Gitakda ang preliminary conference  sa May 29 ug May 30.

“I did not mean to disrespect the court. It was just that I had these commitments that I had also given my word to and I could not bear to disappoint the children who were waiting for me,” pasabot pa ni Garcia sa korte.

Matud pa ni Garcia dako ang iyang pagsalig sa hudikatura maong mitahan siya sa legal nga proseso.

“When I first ran for office, I already prepared myself for the struggles that would lie ahead. It’s part of the hazards of the job. I’m taking it as calmly and as stoically as I can. I feel for my children and my family,” matud pa ni Garcia. (BANAT NEWS)
