MANILA, Philippines — Two elementary school students were electrocuted while two others were injured during a school fun run in Cauayan City, Isabela yesterday morning.

The fatalities, aged seven and eight, died at the scene of the incident, which occurred at the Cauayan South Central School located on Mabini street.

Two others, aged nine and six, were rushed to separate hospitals for treatment of injuries. One of them was immediately discharged after receiving treatment for burns.

Initial investigation showed the children were playing in an area where a bubble machine was operating as part of the fun run.

Probers expressed belief that an electrical short-circuit may have caused the incident.

The Department of Education has expressed sympathy for relatives of the victims.

DepEd Cauayan City Schools Division Superintendent Cherry Ramos said that school officials are cooperating with the investigation.

Ramos appealed to the public to refrain from speculating and sharing false information about the incident.
