Elderly woman hurt in accident
CEBU, Philippines — A 72-year-old woman was injured after she was hit by a Toyota Vios, that was also hit by another vehicle, while crossing Natalio Bacalso Avenue in front of a university in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City, around 8:24 A.M. last Thursday, October 1.
The victim, only identified as “Irene”, was immediately brought to the Cebu City Medical Center, where she remained under medical care as of the latest report.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cebu City Police Office, the Vios was driven by alias “Joy”, 43, while the Nissan Navara was driven by alias “Engil”, 49.
Police said the Vios was followed by the Navara when Joy slowed down after seeing Irene crossing the road, based on dashcam footage.
The Navara then attempted to move to another lane but collided with the rear portion of the Vios.
The impact pushed the Vios forward, causing it to hit Irene and throw her onto the road.
The TEU said Engil was at fault for allegedly failing to maintain a safe distance and exercise due care while driving.
The TEU issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit to Joy for failing to present the vehicle’s Official Receipt, while Engil was cited for reckless driving.
The TEU also requested the Land Transportation Office-7 to consider revoking Engil’s driver’s license, subject to due process.
Meanwhile, the two drivers reportedly agreed not to file complaints against each other.
Engil also agreed to shoulder the damage to the vehicles and Irene’s medical expenses. (CEBU NEWS)
