Cayetano kumpiyansa sa RH oral argument

MANILA, Philippines – Kumpiyansa si Sen. Pia Cayetano sa isasagawang oral argument para sa kontrobersyal na Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act ngayong Martes sa Korte Suprema.

Naniniwala si Cayetano na kaya nilang patunayan sa mataas na hukuman na sang-ayon sa saligang batas ang kinukuwestiyon na Republict Act 10354.

"I am confident that our group - the respondents and the intervenors - have a strong case. As the sponsor of the RH Law in the Senate, I worked meticulously on each and every provision to ensure its constitutionality," pahayag ni Cayetano.

Magtutuos sa isang debate ang mga may-akda ng batas laban sa mga kritiko nito na pangungunahan ng mga dating senador na sina Aquilino Pimentel Jr. at Francisco Tatad.

Labin-limang petisyon kontra sa RH Law ang inihain sa Korte Suprema na nagresulta sa pagpapatigil ng pagpapatupad nito sa loob ng 120 araw mula noong Marso 19.

Ayon sa mga naghain na batas, “[The controversial law] negates and frustrates the foundational ideals and aspirations of the sovereign Filipino people as enshrined in the Constitution.”

Makakasama ni Cayetano sa pagtatanggol ng RH Law sina dating Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros, dating health secretary Esperanza Cabral, at Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman.

Nasa kabilang panig naman sina Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr., Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Health Secretary Enrique Ona, at Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II.

Ang mga respondents sa petisyon ay sina Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr., Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Health Secretary Enrique Ona, at Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II.

"The implementation of the law has been restrained for 120 days and in the meantime, 15 women die each day," angkin ng senadora.
