Isyu sa ambush sa Gingoog ginagamit pantakip ng AFP - Bayan

MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang militanteng grupong Bayan ngayong Martes sa Armed Forces of the Philippines na huwag gamitin ang isyu sa pag-ambush sa convoy kay Gingoog Mayor Ruth Guingona upang matakpan ang kanilang paglabag sa karapatang pantao.
 
Sinabi ni Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes na ginagamit ng AFP ang pag-atake ng New People’s Army kay Guingona upang mawala ang atensyon sa mga hindi nareresolbang kaso ng paglabag sa karapatang pantao.
 
"The AFP should stop using the incident to draw attention away from the many unresolved human rights violations linked to the military, such as the abduction of Jonas Burgos, Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan," pahayag ni Reyes.
 
Dagdag ni Reyes na dapat ay alamin ng administrasyong Aquino ang ugat ng insidente at trabahuhin ang muling paggulong ng natigil na usaping pangkapayapaan sa National Democratic Front of the Philippines.
 
"We agree with Senator Teofisto Guingona III when he said that the incident in Gingoog again underscores the need to resume formal peace talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines," sabi ni Reyes.
 
Samantala, sinisi rin ni Reyes ang administrasyong Aquino sa pagkaantala ng usaping pangkapayapaan.
 
"The Aquino government has previously placed many obstacles to the resumption of the peace talks, including the refusal to honor previous agreements such as the Hague Joint Declaration and the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees," komento ni Reyes.
 
Dagdag niya na maaaring maghayin ng reklamo ang pamilya ni Guingona sa National Democratic Front of the Philippines upang maibestigahan ang insidente.
 
"Complaints by the aggrieved parties can be brought directly to the National Democratic Front of the Philippines through the GPH-NDFP Joint Monitoring Committee on the Comprehensive Agreement for Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.”
 
"Mechanisms are in place to ensure that there would be a proper investigation and that there would be accountability for the NPA actions," sabi ni Reyes.
