LONDON – Filipino migrants living thousands of miles away from their homeland miss the culture and customs of the Philippines as well as the company of their families and friends back home.
The 30th annual Barrio Fiesta sa London 2014 is an effort to bring “home” closer to Filipinos in the UK. It will be held on July 19 and 20 at Apps Court Farm in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
The festivities this year promise a “bolder, grander experience” for all participants as the biggest stars from Manila are set to entertain the crowd. Favorites such as Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Julia Barretto, Gary Valenciano and more will take the stage during the most awaited event of the year.
The Western Union Company (NYSE:WU), a leader in global payment services, pays tribute to overseas Filipinos in the United Kingdom (UK) as they gear up to celebrate Barrio Fiesta sa London 2014. To make the event more meaningful and exciting to its Filipino attendees, the money transfer company will offer fun activities and surprises on both days, including flights home to the Philippines for a lucky few.
In 2012, the Office for National Statistics in the UK recorded an estimate of 218,000 Filipino migrants living in the sovereign state, with the largest community living in and around London.
All visitors to the Western Union booth during the 2-day gathering that sign-up will be given raffle coupons for a chance to win exciting prizes such as round trip tickets to the Philippines via the Philippine’s flagship carrier, Philippine Airlines.
“Overseas Filipinos are very close to our hearts. Their hard work and commitment helps to improve the lives of their families back home and has also been one of the main drivers for growth for the country through the years. We are thrilled to have the chance to reward them by giving them an opportunity to visit home and reconnect with their loved ones,” says Patricia Riingen, Senior Vice President, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Western Union.
Barrio Fiesta sa London 2014 is presented by the Philippine Centre and The Filipino Channel with Western Union as a co-presenter.
