MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs has raised Alert level 2 (Restriction Phase) in Kenya in response to the deteriorating security situation there.
Under Alert Level 2, Filipinos are advised to restrict movement and avoid unnecessary travel and crowded places.
The Restriction Phase only allows returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with existing employment contracts. No new deployment of workers is allowed with the exception of workers in the United Nations agencies in Kenya.
There are an estimated 440 Filipinos in Kenya, most of whom reside in Nairobi.
Filipinos in Kenya are encouraged to contact the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi for instructions.
The DFA has also raised Alert Level 2 in the Gaza Strip owing to "security threats posed by Israel-Hamas conflict."
The estimated 109 Filipinos in Gaza are advised to restrict non-essential movements and prepare for possible evacuation.
Alert Level 1 (Precautionary Phase) is raised in the West Bank where there are about 113 Filipinos, and in southern and central Israel. There are 36,400 Filipinos in Israel. Under Alert Level 1, Filipinos are alerted to take the necessary precautions.
