YANGON (Xinhua) - Myanmar will host 2014 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (BIS) in Nay Pyi Taw in November, according to Vice-President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) U Wai Phyo Friday.
U Wai Pyo who is also a member of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (BAC) said that the 2014 ASEAN BIS is slated for Nov. 12- 14.
ASEAN BIS, organized annually by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC), provides a platform for the business community to engage with ASEAN Leaders and economic ministers as well as key decision makers, he said.
This annual summit aims to increase ASEAN's attractiveness as a region for trade and investment and enhances regional competitiveness, a press release issued by ASEAN BAC also said.
The ASEAN BIS is expected to be attended by prominent government, business and thought leaders to discuss issues of strategic importance to ASIAN and East Asia.
It also provides a platform for sharing of ideas, information and best practices.
ASEAN BIS also provides opportunities for extensive business networking and matchmaking, it said.
Myanmar takes the rotating chair of ASEAN this year for the first time after joining ASEAN in 1997.
ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
