AMMAN (Xinhua) - Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Saturday reiterated the Arab kingdom's full support to the Palestinian authority in its peace talks with Israel, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The minister made his remarks during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, where he said creating an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital is in Jordan' s national interests.
The two's discussions included progress in the peace talks. Abbas said the Palestinian authority is committed to the timeframe set by the United States for peace negotiations with Israel.
On Jerusalem, the minister said that Jordan is taking a firm position regarding Israeli violations in the city.
Judeh also highlighted the efforts Jordan is exerting to counter Israel's unilateral measures on Jerusalem, especially against Al Aqsa mosque and other holy sites in the city.
