Hundreds of Syrians flee bakery attack to Turkey

ANKARA (AP) — An official says hundreds of Syrians have fled to Turkey following an airstrike that reportedly targeted a bakery and killed scores of people in a rebel-held Syrian town.

The Turkish government official said around 700 people, most of them women and children, arrived in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli on Monday. The state-run Anadolu Agency put the number at 1,100.

Turkey is hosting more than 145,000 refugees from Syria, where the regime relies heavily on airstrikes in its fight against insurgents.

On Sunday, some Syrian activists said one of those airstrikes targeted a bakery in the central town of Halfaya, killing more than 60 people.

The Turkish official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to journalists on the record.
