MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal finally broke par with a two-under 70 but could only turn in a joint 12th finish in the Annika Invitational won by local bet Angel Yin at the Watson course of the Reunion Resort in Reunion, Florida last Monday.
Superal failed to rebound after a so-so opening 73 with a three-over 75 in the second round but hit six birdies, including four in a seven-hole stretch from No. 11, to salvage a closing 36-34 card.
But with a 218 aggregate, the reigning US Girls’ Junior champion settled for a share of 12th with Alice Jo of China, who fired a 68, and Aditi Ashok of India, who carded a 71, way off the 204 total posted by Yin in running away with an eight-shot romp in the 54-hole event hosted by the LPGA legend.
Yin kept her run of under-par scores, finishing with a 66 for that 12-under aggregate with Florida’s Ruixin Lio finishing second at 212 after a 71. Mika Liu of California took third at 213 after a 69.
Pauline del Rosario, who carried for Team ICTSI-The Country Club in the first round with a 72, limped with a 77 and a 75 to end up tied for 25th with four others.
Superal and del Rosario were two of a slew of foreign players invited to the annual event, which was part of the American Junior Golf Association and hosted by the Annika Foundation as a way to teach young players the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and offer aspiring junior golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams.
