CEBU, Philippines - An estimated P1.3 million worth of different brands of cellphones, and assorted cellphone accessories, including Smart and Globe cards were carted away by unidentified burglars in a cellphone distributor in Dumaguete City.
The burglary at Pick and Carry store, located along Perdices Street in the city, was discovered by its utility man Rommel Siason Dicon, 24, when he opened the establishment yesterday morning.
Dicon, a resident of Valencia town, arrived at the store at about 8:21 a.m., and noticed that the roll-up door was already opened and things were scattered inside.
He then found a vertical hole in the wall of the stock room, measuring more or less 26 x 28 inches, and another horizontal hole in the comfort room, measuring about 30 x 36 inches. When he checked the vault it was already opened with empty cartoons left inside.
Recovered inside the store were a wood saw, bonnets, a Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas bag, steel cutter, short pants, abrasive tape, utility knife, receipts from Robinsons Handy man and a Cloud Fon bag.
Investigations further disclosed that the suspects may have gained entry through the back of the store by hammering the cemented wall of the stock room with the use of a mallet and exited at the rooftop of the building. (FREEMAN)
