DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion of the Philippine Army, in partnership with the local government unit of Dauin in Negros Oriental, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the 302nd Infantry Battalion, launched Tuesday its environmental campaign to help save marine resources.
Dubbed “Apo i CARe” (Apo Island Coral Assessment and Rehabilitation), the activity was precursory to the 9th anniversary celebration of the 79th IB Wednesday.
The campaign also aimed to promote tourism on Apo Island, a protected seascape and landscape, which is a world-renowned destination for diving and a haven of marine resources, like the sea turtles.
The 79th IB also coordinated with the Protected Area Management Board of Apo Island, and conducted hiking, snorkeling and diving activities to raise awareness and promote environment conservation effort. (FREEMAN)
