In Abuyog, Leyte: Jail guard seizes shabu for delivery to a prisoner

CEBU, Philippines - A one-fourth kilo of shabu worth about P4,000, placed inside three pieces of ice wrapper and packed in a newspaper, was confiscated at the entrance of the Abuyog Penal Colony in Abuyog town of Leyte, as it was about to be delivered to a prisoner.

Female jail guard, Jecebel Calang, upon checking the LBC package delivered by the courier’s employee Wilvir Mosquera, discovered the illegal item.

Chief Superintendent Asher Dolina, director of the Police Regional Office-8, told The Freeman the package was consigned to a prisoner, identified as Fernando Corsiga, who was convicted for life in prison due to illegal drugs.

LBC officials in Leyte, when asked for comment on the delivery of the package, refused to issue any statement.

Dolina said he had coordinated with officials of the Abuyog Penal Colony for a thorough investigation on the reported proliferation of illegal drugs inside the penitentiary.

Reports reaching PRO-8 stated that there are 10 high profile inmates now serving their sentence at the APC, most of whom were transferred from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, due to the series of illegal drugs operations inside the national penitentiary. —Miriam Garcia Desacada (FREEMAN)
