Negros Occ. incurs P19M damage

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The onslaught of typhoon Ruby left more than P19 million worth of damage to agriculture and fisheries in Negros Occidental, a report from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed.

OPA reported a total of P12,115,974 damage to crops and P7,861,550 to fisheries in seven towns and cities in the province due to strong winds and floods brought by the typhoon.

According to OPA, the typhoon battered crops, including palay worth P8,550,984; corn (P3,333,240); and other crops (P231,750). Pump boats and fishing equipment were also damaged in the affected localities.

Sagay City reported the highest amount of damage to crops and fisheries with P5,599,964 and P7,533,000, respectively.

Next to Sagay City with the highest amount of damage to crops is San Carlos City with P4,803,120; Toboso (P1,143,990); Manapla (P241,600); Cadiz City (P170,400); EB Magalona (P84,000); and Valladolid (P72,900).

Also, a total of P180,870 worth of damage to livestock was reported in Sagay City and the towns of Salvador Benedicto, EB Magalona, Manapla and Toboso, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office.
