BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Four persons, including a pregnant woman, were killed while 34 others were hurt following a collision between a Ceres bus and a mini-bus at Brgy. Pilar in Hinigaran town of Negros Occidental, at 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Police confirmed that a three-month pregnant woman and three men, including the mini-bus conductor, died in the road accident.
Police records identified the fatalities, all from the mini-bus, as Wilma Escalona of Brgy. Enclaro in Binalbagan town; Rolando Alfonso, of Brgy. Carol-an in Kabankalan City; Henry Rendon, 52, of Binalbagan town; and the conductor Claudio Lowell Jagolino, 35, of Brgy. Miranda in Hinigaran, who was beheaded due to the strong impact of the collision.
Police further said seven of the 34 wounded passengers were brought to a hospital in Bacolod City while the others were treated in a hospital in Hinigaran. One passenger reportedly lost her right arm.
The bus, owned by Vallacar Transit, was bound for Bacolod City from Cebu City while the mini-bus was going to Kabankalan City from Bacolod.
Investigation has been going on, as both drivers were already in custody of the Hinigaran Police Station. (FREEMAN)
