ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A 20-year-old woman was gunned down while in front of a mall at Quezon Street in this city Monday evening.
Mall goers and motorists were shocked after seeing the body of Frances Lei Reyes slumped on the pavement.
Reyes, a resident of Brgy. Santa Rita in Oton town of Iloilo, sustained a lone gunshot injury on her head. She was declared dead on arrival St. Therese Hospital.
The victim had just went out of the mall and was carrying a bag of groceries when the gunman approached her and fired a gun to the back of her head. Witnesses saw the gunman and two others fleeing on foot from the scene.
Chief Insp. Alexander Rosales, City Proper Police chief, said investigators have been looking into personal grudge or love triangle as possible motives in the killing. "It was not mistaken identity. The gunman was certain about the target," he added.
Reyes had two children-a 3-year old boy and a 2-year old girl-fathered by two different men. Her siblings said she was in a relationship but could not identify the man because she was very secretive about her affairs. — (FREEMAN)
