HILONGOS, LEYTE, Philippines — A new school, Virginia Institute of Technology-Hilongos campus, was opened and inaugurated last week at Brgy. Atabay of this town.
The VIT, accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to offer vocational courses, was established to give residents of this town and its neighbors a chance to finish their education without going to the city for the purpose.
The school, also bearing the education-employment (E to E) program, will provide every student the opportunity for employment after finishing a course here, according to authorities.
VIT's technical consultant, Jose Emery Roble, said this was a dream-come-true for his father who, while still alive, had plans and vision of establishing a school in this town.
VIT president Carlos Lobite Sr. told Hilongosnons, during the inauguration rites, that setting up the school was important to them as it provides a better future for education and employment.
DOLE-Region 8 head of the western Leyte filed office, Marites Viñas, said the agency vowed to support the programs of VIT for the benefit of the residents in this part of the province. — (FREEMAN)
