Negros Oriental Officers of brgy leagues sworn into office

DUMAGUETE CIT, Philippines - — Thirty-three barangay officials of this city were sworn into their elected posts in the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) and the newly-revived Liga ng mga Barangay Kagawad (LBK)- Dumaguete chapter.

For the city's ABC, 13 newly-elected officers, headed by Lionel Banogon of Brgy. Buñao's, assumed their posts in the organization after taking their oaths before Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.

For the LBK, 20 barangay councilmen, headed by Marife Ligon-Cordova of Brgy. Piapi, were sworn into office by Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling.

Outgoing ABC president Albert Aquino, former barangay chairman of Bantayan, handed over to incoming ABC president Banogon the Liga Mandala, a painting that represented all 30 barangays of this city.

Banogon, in his acceptance speech, appealed for unity and cooperation among ABC officials and members, adding that his greatest fear is to be compared to Aquino in terms of performance.

He then presented a nine-point agenda to be implemented during his term, among them are to push the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) to formulate disaster plans designed to fill the needs of each barangay, and sustaining the Liga Web Portal to augment the online presence of the city's 30 barangays.

Cordova, for her part, told The Freeman of her optimism over the consistency of the importance of LBK, which fell into inactivity due to the former officers' lack of interest.

"The provincial DILG mandated us to reorganize the LBK, so we chose active and youthful officers whom we know to be innovative and have initiative," she said, as she urged her fellow LBK officers to be consistent in their action for the benefit of the league.  (FREEMAN)
