CEBU, Philippines - An alarming total of 105 cases of diarrhea hit the town of Kananga in Leyte months after Yolanda, but the local government was able to contain the alarming rise by reducing the number to a single digit this week.
Municipal health workers are still monitoring the unstable number, which may again rise, while Mayor Elmer Codilla ordered for an immediate investigation of the cause.
The investigation in turn showed that the culprit was not the main water source in Brgy. Mahawan, but the contaminated water pipelines that were damaged by the typhoon.
Codilla then directed for a controlled application of increased quantity and frequency of water treatment and instant rehabilitation of water pipelines, resulting in the containment of the waterborne-disease. — (FREEMAN)
