DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - – The Tandayag Fishermen’s Association, in partnership with the Amlan municipal government, was the grand prize winner for the 2013 Timbayayong Awards for its program for protection and conservation of marine resources.
The Timbayayong Awards, a joint undertaking by the provincial government and the Negros Oriental Network of NGOs and POs, is an annual search for the outstanding LGU-NGO/people’s organization partnership showcasing projects for local development.
Capitol spokesperson Adrian Sedillo said the Tandayag group received P200,000 worth of projects for implementation, such as the acquisition of kerosene lamps and small outrigger boats.
The runner-up for the awards were the Vallehermoso LGU and the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South for their joint undertaking on maternal health care. They got P150,000 worth of projects to sustain their program and to establish a birthing facility in that farthest town of the nothern part of the province.
Governor Roel Degamo handed over the prizes in a ceremony at the Capitol on Monday. (FREEMAN)
