ALBUERA, LEYTE, Philippines – A policeman assigned to this town and a former member of the CAFGU were killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen at around 7 p.m. of January 1, along the highway of Brgy. Balugo in this town.
The two were returning to the Poblacion after investigating reports of suspicious looking men on motorcycles with no plates seen in the area. They never lived to report what they found out.
The victims, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, were identified as PO1 Rodolfo Securata and his friend, ex-CAFGU member Juries Tangarorang. Both were natives of Jaro, Leyte and temporarily residing at this town.
According to investigators, the two were deployed by Sr. Insp. Jonathan Camacho, Albuera Police chief, to check on the reported armed men in Balugo.
They were on their way back when two motorcycles, each with two riders, trailed them, overtook them and opened fire. After making sure the two were dead, the killers left the scene. As of press time, the police are conducting hot pursuit operations against the gunmen.
