TAGBILARAN CITY , Philippines – A priest identified as Fr. Ivan Alombro died instantly when he was ran over by a six-wheeler Isuzu cargo truck loaded with 1,800 live chickens along Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Avenue in this at past 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Alombro was reportedly driving his XRM motorcycle, from Barangay Dampas that had celebrated its fiesta on his way to an scheduled Mass at a church in Barangay Bo-ol, about 200 meters away from the scene of accident.
There was no accurate account yet on how the priest was hit by the truck, driven by Edmund Mondred of Barangay Manga, who immediately surrendered to the police.
When The Freeman arrived at the scene, the priest’s lifeless body, bathed in blood, by the roadside was already covered with a piece of white cloth. The pack of food that he apparently got from the fiesta was scattered on the road near his body.
The Freeman learned from the truck helper that the owner of the truck (plate No. GFX-704) was identified as a certain Nanding Seroje of this city. The helper said they were on their way to the nearby town of Alburquerque to deliver the chickens.
The police are still conducting investigation of the incident, as of press time. (FREEMAN)
