DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Three people were killed as the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a passenger bus along the national highway at Brgy. Ajong in Sibulan town of Negros Oriental around 9 p.m. last Sunday.
A police report identified the fatalities as Lorenzo Uy, 60, married and his son Joji Uy, 33, single, both residents of Brgy. Pansil in Sibulan, and Gilbert Manila, 22, single, of Brgy. San Antonio, also in Sibulan.
The victims were rushed to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete where they were declared dead on arrival.
Initial police investigation showed the motorcycle allegedly crossed lanes as it tried to pass a vehicle ahead of it but instead figured in a head on collision with a Ceres bus coming from the opposite direction.
The bus driver was identified as a certain Ramon Pasatiempo, Jr., 34, married, of Brgy. Mayuog in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Pasatiempo, who voluntarily surrendered to the Sibulan Police station, was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.
Both the passenger bus and the motorcycle incurred damages. The police impounded the bus on Sunday but released it later due to the affidavit of undertaking by the bus company, added the Sibulan Police. (FREEMAN)
