MAASIN, ILOILO, Philippines — A barangay captain died after he was stabbed by his two brothers-in-law Friday evening at Brgy. Nasaka of this town.
The 50-year-old victim, Federico Sales, succumbed to more than five injuries on the different parts of his body.
Police said the suspects Alex Madero and Elvi Labrador, who fled on a motorcycle and remained at-large to this day, allegedly took turns in stabbing Sales shortly after they exchanged nasty words.
According to Sr. Insp. Johnny Tumambing, Maasin Police chief, Sales went to the store of Manuel Iwag to buy bottles of beer. But Iwag told Sales, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor already, that he run out of stock of the beer the victim had ordered.
An exchange of words ensued between Sales and the suspects who were also on binge drinking at Iwag’s store.
Witnesses said Sales attempted to pull a knife tucked on his waist, but the suspects were quick to grapple with the knife. They then stabbed the barangay captain.
Tumambing said that old grudges could have triggered the incident, recalling that, three years ago, Madero, a former barangay councilman, complained against Sales for harassment. (FREEMAN)
