Cebu Normal University Chorale- a group of aspiring singers at the same time students of Cebu Normal University, is one of the finest gems in Cebu that we should be proud of.
Since its existence, the group has put its name on a pedestal; representing the whole university as ambassador of goodwill. For seven years now, the group is under the baton of Prof. Darlane A. Yap, a graduate of Music Education at Silliman University and currently teaching music courses at Cebu Normal University.
Since the year when Yap took over as the conductor and director, the group has already produced successful alumni acclaimed not only nationally but also internationally.
The group is composed of aspiring singers from the different colleges of the university. It is not easy to serve two masters at a time, but its members are able to cope with the demands of their studies and their commitment to the group. This can be proven by the members who are dean's listers and even graduated as cum laude.
As the ambassador of the university, the group has to do its duty to sing and express- which is the very reason why the group has already performed in some various hotels here in Cebu.
Last August 2015, the group qualified as one of the six finalistd of the NAMCYA (National Music Competition for Young Artists) Choir Competition, one of the most prestigious choir competitions in the country. It flew to Manila last November 27, 2015 to compete for the national level held at CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines). Although the group has not placed in the national level, it is still a priceless gift to be part of that very prestigious event.
After it competed in Manila, the group flew to Legaspi City, Albay last December 1, 2015 to compete in the 2015 PASUC (Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges) Socio-cultural and Literary Festival held last December 1-3, 2015 at Bicol University. The group represented Region 7 in the choir category where it bagged the silver medal (1st runner-up) out of the 14 other regions around the Philippines.
The group has already experienced ups and downs in its way up. What matters most is the passion and commitment of the members to sustain the life of the group. Congratulations to the whole Cebu Normal University Chorale and of course to its conductor, Prof. Darlane A. Yap.
