It is the street in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Cebu City formerly named as "Ranudo Extension Street". The Cebu City Council on motion of Councilor Jocelyn G. Pesquera on May 16, 2007 enacted City Ordinance No. 2122 renaming Ranudo Extension to Lim Tian Teng.
Lim Tian Teng was an orphan from China who tried his luck in Cebu and rose from a copra worker, helper, janitor and warehouseman to trader to businessman. He also ventured into the shipping industry by purchasing his first ship the M/V Gorliz in the 1930's. He then co-founded the "Hoa Hin", after buying three more ships. The company he co-founded was later renamed "Cebu Shipyard, now known as KEPPEL PHILIPPINES.
During the Second World War, Lim Tian Teng stood up against the Japanese invaders by agreeing to be the president of the Anti-Japanese Association in Cebu City, putting him and family in life-threatening danger.
He sent food and medicine to the guerillas and prisoners of the Japanese Imperial Army occupying Cebu. When he was alive he gave scholarships to persons whom he deemed promising, many of which became successful businessmen.
He financed the evacuation of many poor families to take refuge in Bolok-bolok, Barili; the place where his family took refuge during the war.
Lim Tian Teng may have died, but his greatness and love for the Cebuanos continued with his daughter, Beling Go Ching Hai, whose civic-mindedness bore several charitable projects. She led the "Federated Organization of Women Active & Responsive to Development" (FORWARD) planting hundreds of thousands of trees all over Cebu City and its neighboring provinces. She also was involved with the "Golden Center for the Aged" with their office located in St. Joseph Parish in Mabolo, Cebu City.
The Cebu City Council's ordinance naming a street to Lim Tian Teng was made to honor the valuable contribution of a man who rose from janitor to a business tycoon and shared his blessings with his fellowmen.
